What have we learned over two millenia?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign land should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."
       -- Cicero , 55 BC

       Evidently, not a damn thing...

...because here it is 2000 years later and we have a budget that is horribly out-of-balance, the Treasury is empty, public debt is at an all-time high, Obama's arrogance is unprecedented and definitely out of control, we give away tax-payers money so other countries won't have our debt problems and we could care less if we go bankrupt.  People have learned to live on public assistance and forgotten the work ethic.   Our founding fathers would be ashamed of us.
Yep, we have not learned a damned thing!
