What it means to be a GG...

What is a "Good Guy"? (or gal) It is a patriotic person?  Is it being nice to everybody?  Is it being a good parent?...or is it a lot more than that?   I got to thinking about this the other day while driving and mentally began to jot down some things that must define a GG.  For starters, how about cutting down on the energy each of us use every day.  We can ya know!
  • Reducing your own personal energy use - by using fluorescent bulbs in every single socket in your home.
  • Driving a smaller 4 cyl car.  We just simply have to get rid of this ego that says we have to have big V6 or V-8 fuel-inefficient vehicles for our personal running-around.  20 - 25 mpg combined obviously is just not getting it done!
  • Another thing we could all do is TURN OUT THE LIGHTS WHEN WE LEAVE THE ROOM!
  • Turn off you computer overnight.
  • Put your pool pump on a timer.  Don't run it 24/7
  • Replace outside security light bulbs with more efficient ones that don't "leak" light up toward the sky.
  • Turn you A/C up just 2 degrees and your furnace down by 2 degrees. Cold?...put on a sweater. Hot?...take it off.
  • Limit your trips to one a week...combine your errands and appointments. Avg Cost Per Mile is now over 70 cents.
  • Use the WWII slogan:  "Is this trip really necessary?"
Folks, we must do something to reduce our energy use in this country - Now!  Or, we will soon have no oil for gasoline, then what? If the Arabs cut us off again we are cooked. Hydro-electric dams are ruining our rivers, coal-fired plants are ruining the air we all breath.  And the pollution from these activities is ruining our land.  And yet we ban the safest form of energy  - Nuclear, because of some ill-founded fears and misinformation. France gets 77%  from nuclear, Japan 35% while we get only 19%.  Surely we are a lot smarter than that.

Remember the phrase: Charity starts at home?  Well, energy saving starts at home - with you - today!  That is part of what being a Conservative is all about.  You CONSERVE!

Good Advice to maybe help you keep your job!

When your boss has to lay off or fire a certain number of employees, what are his rules for who to keep and who to let go?  This time-honored writing of Elbert Hubbard may make the difference in your job security.  Read it and maybe even put it on your desk or wall as a constant reminder.

"If you work for a man, in heaven's name..WORK for him!

If he pays you wages which supply your bread and butter, speak well of him; stand by him & the institution he represents.  If put to a pinch, an ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness.  If you must vilify, condemn and eternally disparage - Resign your position and when you are outside, damn to your heart's content.  But, as long as your are part of the institution, do not condemn it.  If you do that, you are loosening the tendrils that are holding you to that institution and by the first high wind that comes along, you will be uprooted and blown away and probably will never know the reason why."
